I don't know if you want to read more about Machu Pichu, but TURN RIGHT AT MACHU PICHU by Mark Adams is great. Also, I just finished LION by Sonya Walger (she plays Molly Cobb on FOR ALL MANKIND and might be one of those faces you recognize on TV). Her father is from Argentina, and the book includes a less than wonderful time at Machu Pichu.

Ahh that is such a cool trip. My parents have traveled a lot of the world and still count Machu Picchu as one of their absolute favorite destinations. And that "Husband made wife miss out on her one wild and precious life" trope is definitely among the most depressing, partly because just knowing other female authors married to men, it's wild to me how incredibly jealous and unsupportive so many now ex-husbands are as soon as they either achieve some modicum of success or more fully dedicate their lives to trying.

I recently read an upcoming queer read that I loved and was both this and not - Ordinary Love by Marie Rutkoski, about a woman who comes face to face with the (female) high school ex she's always been in love with just as she's on the verge of divorce from her husband. I love the way it spirals through the past of their marriage and his emotional abuse while making her confront all the ways she and her ex hurt each other. I found myself waiting for yet another "And he had a woman on the side, of course" and I have a weird amount of appreciation for that it wasn't that, and pretty much all the drama (other than the familial homophobia that kept her closeted) was internal. I'd be curious for your thoughts now that you've read so many books about toxic hetero marriages!
